We are a broad department that emphasizes integrative approaches drawing from across the life sciences. We offer undergraduate majors in Biology and Biochemistry and graduate opportunities at both the MS and PhD levels. Our faculty, students, and staff have received a wide range of honors and awards and some of their achievements are highlighted on this site. East Carolina University’s Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences has announced that Dr. Elizabeth Ables, assistant professor of biology, is one of two recipients of the 2018 Dean’s Early Career Award. The announcement was made May 10 during a special reception hosted by Dean William M. Downs at the home of the THCAS Dean’s Advancement Council Chair Jim Mullen and his wife Pam.
Kelsey Spragley, a MS Biology graduate student, was awarded a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Research Supplement to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research. This award (funded over 12 months) will support Kelsey’s research focused on using cutting edge metabolomics approaches to identify biomarkers contributing to recurrent stroke risk in African Americans. Kelsey is co-mentored by Dr. Keith Keene and Dr. Michael Brewer.
