Welcome to Biology at ECU!

We are a broad department that emphasizes integrative approaches drawing from across the life sciences. We offer undergraduate majors in Biology and Biochemistry and graduate opportunities at both the MS and PhD levels. Our faculty, students, and staff have received a wide range of honors and awards and some of their achievements are highlighted on this site. We encourage alumni to keep in touch and prospective students to visit. I look forward to hearing from you!

A New 'Invasive Species' Exhibit Developed by April Blakeslee and Kayla Clark to open on October 26 at the NC Estuarium
The Invasive Species Exhibit, a collaborative effort between Biology's April Blakeslee and Kayla Clark (ECU School of Art and Design) will open to the public on Thursday, October 26 at 4:30pm.

Biology Alumnus in the Spotlight

BRUCE PANNETON (BS Biology ’96, MS Biology ’02 with Professor Hal J. Daniel, III) is now Dean of Health Sciences and Public Safety at Edgecombe Community College, NC. Bruce is former chair of the Science Department at ECC and received the ECC Keihin Endowed Faculty Chair in 2009 which rewards excellence in teaching.

Congratulations to John Stiller and colleagues on their recently published article 'Insights into a Eukaryotic Alga.' This significant publication explored the genome of Porphyra umbilicalis and reveals the method by which it thrives in the intertidal zone.
