History of the School
During the 1970's, the Department of Drama was responsible for teaching the "Voice and Diction Course", which was required for all teaching degrees and serviced several hundred students a semester. In order to unify the curriculum and to gain a financial resource for scholarships, several of the teachers of this course, including Edgar Loessin, Douglas Ray, Patricia Pertalion, and Helen Steer, researched and wrote a manual to accompany the course. The manual, Your Speech, is still used today in Theatre 2015, Voice and Articulation. The proceeds from the sale of this text are placed in the East Carolina University Theatre Foundation.
